In order to go faster, in 1975 we pulled the boat up a homemade railroad to widen and extend the hull. At this time we re-powered the engine with an 8-cylinder 429 cubic inch Ford engine and built a new 12-foot diameter paddle wheel. We also added a phone booth sized pilothouse. With the added power, we managed to break the wheel shaft and twist off drive shafts at the most inopportune time; usually right in front of the boats we were racing.  We traveled to the Charlestown, West Virginia and Marietta, Ohio regattas with this boat but soon discovered the boat had limited dry places to sleep. This hull was 35 feet long with a scow bow that kept its speed potential down. The rear of the hull ran about 3 inches below the river level at full speed.  This hull was retired in 1981 and converted to the sternwheeler “Bobby C”, which is still floating in the Pittsburgh.
